I have also been spending my time trying to download OS 9.1 for my elderly IMAC. I finally ordered DSL and my computer OS is not compatible!! ARGH. Ofcourse, it takes nearly four hours to download, and something always causes the internet to disconnect when there is only an hour left. This is my 3rd try. I left it going when I left for work. Hope it works! It is clear now, an upgrade is impending! I have my tax return from last year for that very purpose, thank goodness.

I did the exact same thing with that book. Marveled at all of the amazing pictures and tried drawing and painting some of them myself.
The one detail that I always remember and think about when I'm at the park, in the winter - are the beatiful backgrounds of trees along the horizon.
Now I have to go track down the book to look at it again. I think it's at my mom's house!

That book is one of my favorite childhood memories. My friend had it and I thought it was the most wonderful thing. It inspired me to spend hours in my backyard searching for gnomes!

When I was little, there was a big tree in the woods with a hollow in it. My parents told me and my sisters that it was the gnome tree. The gnomes would write us letters and leave us presents. One year it was that book!

Oh I love that book! I think I spent hours on each single page, taking in every detail. I can't imagine how long that must have taken to create. Mind-boggling!
And I totally relate to your computer issues. If you are trying to get OS 9.1 then I know what you're going through. With an old mac like that, you are so limited in what you can do, the programs you can use, etc. Much of what is out there these days is for OS X. Frankly I just threw in the towel and got a whole new system. And I had to get all new stuff, including wacom, scanner and software. It required taking out a small business loan (ouch!), but I think it is justifiable considering how important computers are becoming in what we do. I struggled for ages with my G3.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could all live in hollow trees!

You may be better off trying to buy a system CD from eBay and that way you have the software on hand, too, in case you ever need to reinstall. Also, please note that you may also need to upgrade 9.1 to 9.2.1 (9.2.2 is the highest before X and not needed. The .2 was to allow X on top of it.) Good luck.
