I love callling someone crackers, as in crazy kooky nuts. This however is CRACKERS! I made them last night after bedtime and before Italian gardens was on at 9. It hasn't been on in ages- ha and look at that, its on you tube of course- but I was so exited to see it on the tv and had an hour to kill, so crackers it was! I have been wanting to make them for a while as part of my "You mean I can actually make that myself?" campaign, which is an offshoot of my "Holy crap I need to save money till I can get a job" program. I got the recipe off pinterest and here, 101 cookbooks. They're great! Lovely with the hummus I made to go with them. Triumph! If Finch likes them, it will be even better. I even got to finally use my ravioli cutter that I must have bought 15 years ago in a moment of inspiration. It was very effective.
I am loving overlapping patterns and colours, and using patterns I created for spoonflower as fill in photoshop images. Also trying to heave myself out of this endless winter mood with some springy brightness.
I am determined to get comfortable with the beautiful camera my brother passed along to me, a Canon rebel XTi (so lucky!), and what better place to start than the chaos that surrounds me!
I like these shots because they look like glamor shots of these beloved trucks, two of Finch's favorites, and also like they are shots of two people you have a crush on, in a crowd...if you know what I mean! Zero in on the cute one!
Ahem... anyway, I am enjoying playing around a bit. I love kitchens and think I will take some shots of the messy everyday. I also checked in on Flickr for the first time in years. All my old old pics are still there! I was sure they had gone away as there used to be a 200 picture limit, but no more. Nice to see those old friends again.
Our frosty windows, magical patterns! How does nature manage to be so spectacular!
A chilly post Christmas walk at Sandbanks. The lake was freezing and still there was a flock of adorable little Buffleheads bobbing and diving in the waves.
This has been one crazy winter! Between ice storms, weeks at -15C or colder and endless snow, I'd say I am ready for some springtime! I do like February though. I like the pinks, reds and hearts of Valentines day, I love the spring flowers coming in at the supermarket and the bags of mini eggs tempting me from the candy aisle!
Back in 2004 (!!!!) when I started this blog I was super stoked by making crafty things, connecting to people online and doing craft shows. It was so super fun! My focus has changed over time, trying to make a baby, being preggers and then wrangling said baby, now already 3 1/2 years old! Holy does time zip along as you age... Sometimes I get that sweet craft fever back and I make something, as above! A friend had a little baby boy and motivated by an end of year brokeness, I wanted to make a gift. This little guy is improved by the face I added, but he was rather sad and lumpy for a while. I will overlook that lumpiness and hope, again, it is the thought that counts. I made him and stuffed him with an old receiving blanket and made the leggies baby sized and grabbable, with a couple of those tags babies are supposed to like, so hopefully he can suck and chew on it with abandon. I did have two bells in one leg but they didn't really jingle properly and were a bit hard to the touch, so I tore them out. I think the shape of this guy is definately inspired by one of my very first blog crushes, Rosa Pomar and her glorious BEARS!
I made mummy some delicious Lemon coconut sugar scrub based on this recipe. I made the Lime version for everyone for Christmas, its just wonderful!
Which brings me to my latest feverish obsession, making stuff...body stuff. I am amping up to make my very first soap this year and just last week I challeged myself and emulsified an oil and water mixture to make real creamy body lotion! It is magic, really. I imagine thats what making mayonaise is like...same technique... Its funny because over the years I have known the odd person who has made soap or various things, and it didn't even register on my radar, then suddenly, KA-POW! I am nuts about the idea... ah life. Always on the move!
Better run! Gotta pick up my little guy from preschool. After months, he was finally exited to go! He has a crush on this tiny girl, who today he referred to as a sweet tiny kitten! REALLY!!! They like to read books together, bless.
