This is a flower to go in a wedding invitation I am doing. I usually draw things with faces... does this look ok? I will resist the urge to draw in a small pumpkin with legs and a smile.

I have no idea how I stumbled on this, but I never mind finding kids art!

I drew these about five years ago when I found this rubber stamp of a stamp. I had grand plans of making tons of stamps, but I think I only made about eight of them.

I have this thing for folding paper boxes. These are mostly pages from a "how to oil paint" book from the 60's. I also like using old maps and foreign languages. I will post a picture of what they are going to become when it is done.

Rivers and Tides

This is a really neat movie. I never knew all that much about Andy Goldsworthy. He makes the most beautiful things out of leaves and rocks and twigs. They always fall apart eventually, and return to the earth. This spiral of driftwood floated out to sea as the tide came in. He said the sea made the sculpture better than he could have ever dreamed of making it.

Yesterday Paul and I rode our bikes all the way out to the Leslie Spit, a man made penninsula created from all sorts of rubble and junk. It has trees and birds growing on it now, and we did something I have loved doing since I was small - rummaging in beach gravel. Look at the neat things we found! I also found a scrappy life sized cement poodle, but he was too heavy to put in my bike basket.

I know this is the wrong time of year, but while we are on the theme of my library job, I had to show you this. Its my favorite book in the library. Pages and pages of snow flakes!!

I love my job - part 2. Working in a library means you get to see neat things all the time. They were tossing out this cool envelope and this book is almost actual size - teeny weeny and with pictures of plaid.

I finally installed my birthday present. My brother gave me Tord Boontje's Midsummer light!! Isn't it the prettiest thing ever? This guy is so original, there has never been anything like it.

the everything bird

The other fabulous thing about yesterday was seeing the everything bird. I saw it once before about 4 years ago, in the same neighborhood, and it can sing every bird's song. It's like a tape recorder, replaying any bird songs it has ever heard. It jumps up and flaps about and it is just a plain brown bird.

Does anyone know anything about the everything bird?
I love the everything bird.

Yesterday Paul and I joined a billion other people on a bike ride to raise money for heart and stroke research. It was really neat to be on the highway without the cars! This little dog was happy because he didn't have to pedal at all. We rode our bikes 50Km! I am still tired...

This was my lunch yesterday. I made carrot soup with extra garlic and ginger, fearing I was getting a cold. It's nice when food is so cheerful. It looked so pretty in the sun in my back room. I could see the trees blowing in the quite strong wind and its at those times that I like to pretend that instead of the wierd parking lot behind my back door, there is a lovely river, with grasses, birds and trees lining it. On extra special days a sail boat goes by. I can take my lunch down the fire escape and eat there by the water, feeding my toast to the ducks.

This made me feel better today. It is neat how a few of my favorite blogs have had this theme in the last few days. I guess it is a chain reation, and thank goodness I am not the only one feeling sometimes like I don't exist. I like the idea of deciding I already am who I am, instead of always trying to get there. That takes the pressure off.
