My neighbor hand wrote the recipe for these delicious almond/oat jam thumbprint cookies and left it in my mailbox. They are so good! You also feel like you are being virtuous and healthy by eating them because they are only sweetened by maple syrup- and of course, a generous dollop of sugary jam... but still!
Things are very stressful for us lately. We recently realised that a project to put in a
high speed rail link to the airport is pretty much a done deal. It will run past our front door, every seven minutes on diesel trains.
DIESEL! In this day and age!! It won't stop anywhere, it will cost too much for regular working people to use as transport and it is going to suck hugely. Someone's palms are being greased and no one is telling the truth. It is making me very sad, it will ruin my summer days on the porch and it will poison all the babies along its path, which is long and goes through many communities. I am trying to do my bit of protest and advocacy, but merely putting flyers in mailboxes makes me break out into a sweat and have a panic attack. A couple of us are trying to get the word out in our area...for now I have to step back a bit as I need to preserve my mental health, what little I have left, as it has already been a really hard two years without this on top of it.
Anyway, I don't like to whine here, but if I have been vacant lately, that is partly why.
I am stretching and squinting, trying to see some happy good things to latch on to , so I will keep you posted.
For now...
- -a pot of hyacinths on the kitchen table are brightening my mornings. (Can't you almost smell them?)
